KEY POINTS: Data breach involving online retailer Zappos has exposed customer account information and passwords
PULSE Fraud Operations is notifying participants that online shoe and clothing retailer Zappos.com, Inc. has reported a server breach that has resulted in the potential compromise of customers' personal details and account information.
Exposed data includes customer names, email addresses, billing and shipping addresses, phone numbers, the last four digits of card numbers and cryptographically scrambled Zappos account passwords. At this time, no other transaction data is believed to be affected.
This incident could affect up to 24 million online customers. Zappos is cooperating with investigative authorities and is requiring that all customers reset passwords before new transactions will be allowed. The company sent an email, which is posted to their website, to customers on January 15, 2012, encouraging them to create new account passwords.
