On January 1, 1987 Mercer Savings Bank acquired the former Home Building and Loan Company.  The Home Building and Loan Company received its charter to operate as a financial institution in the State of Ohio in April 1888.  The corporation was formed, “For the purpose of raising money to be loaned among its members for use in buying lots, or in building and repairing houses, or for other purposes under and in accordance with the Revised Code of Ohio.” In 1985 The Home Building and Loan acquired FSLIC Insurance, became a federally chartered company and the name was changed to Home Federal Savings and Loan Company of Coldwater. The Home Building and Loan Company first had its office in the rear of the Old Bank Building (now David W. Bruns Law Office).  During the next 48 years they moved to two or three locations along the south side of Main Street.  In 1936 Mr. John H. Boeke built an office at 117 S. Second St. where they were located until 1973.  In 1973 Home Building and Loan Company moved to 121 W. Main St., where they shared office space with Boeke Insurance Agency until 1985 when they moved across the street to 122 S. Main St.   As mentioned earlier, on January 1, 1987 the Home Federal Savings and Loan Company merged with Mercer Savings Bank, Celina, Ohio and moved into its present location at 130 Terrace Ave., Coldwater in 1992.
